Currently, the non-metallic mineral sector in South Sudan is characterized by vast untapped potential. While the region is rich in clay and sand deposits, the demand for specialized polar white stones has surged due to the growth of government infrastructure and luxury residential projects in urban centers.
The local market primarily relies on traditional open-pit extraction. However, the extreme wet and dry seasonal cycles of the Nile basin create significant logistical challenges for the transport of large stones for garden, often leading to supply shortages during the rainy season.
Despite these hurdles, there is a growing shift toward standardized grading. Local contractors are moving away from raw riverbed dredging toward processed small stones for garden to meet international landscaping standards for soil drainage and aesthetic appeal.
