The main component is montmorillonite, with a content of 85-90%; clay minerals associated with montmorillonite include illite, kaolinite, halloysite, chlorite, hydroxy-aluminosilicates, and some interlayer clay minerals. It has a high swelling capacity of 20-30 times, high water absorption, and slow water absorption.
